The Actual Gift of Tongues

Boy do I have a miracle to share with all of you. Thee craziest thing happened this week. Back on like week 2 in the field I had this feeling that we needed to knock the doors on 69th and Karen Lee lane, but we didn't get the chance or make the time until last week, and that is where we found the family from India that I wrote about last week! Raj, Raji, Boonam, and Mahi. As we were preparing to go back and teach them yesterday, I went to restock my bag with book of Mormons. In amongst all our English and Spanish Book of Mormons I FIND A RANDOM HINDI BOOK OF MORMON. So just for fun, and because there are no such thing as coincidences, I took it, and compared it with my English book of Mormon and found all the best verses and highlighted it up for them! If you were to ask me how to write "Alma" in Hindi I could tell ya! I've also got all their numbers down! It was fun. Anyways I take it with us to our lesson with them and as we are talking I ask them what language the...

Okay so here's an email where hopefully I don't forget anything!! The biggest miracle of my week is in the weekly email, so go read that one there! It was the coolest thing ever. I ate swordfish this week and it was soooooo good! Sister Ashby brought her parents back to visit her mission, and we were doing service for our recent convert Chris and when she texted him to tell him she wanted to come back and visit he told her that we would all be there and she planned to come at the same time so she could see me!! When she walked in I just started crying. It was the best ever. I love and miss her so much. It was also super duper weird for me to see her again not as a missionary. It was like I was seeing a ghost Haha. The cabin looked like it was such a BLAST! I LOVED the pictures! The crawdads, kayaking, jumping in the lake, my heart! I wish I was there with you all but your smiles were enough for me to feel like I was! I MISS YOU CRAZIES! This week we got a call with a last...

"I know exactly what I'm doing, but in a much more real sense I have no idea what I'm doing." - Michael Scott

What a week. That quote is the title of this email because I feel like I'm just out here trying to fake it till I make it! Most of the time I literally have no idea what I'm doing but somehow it all works out it always does! Fun things that happened this week: - we witnessed 3 drug deals happen right before our eyes as we were teaching our friend Timmothy up in the trailer parks. It's ghetto up there and we see A LOT of things. - IT RAINED IN THE DESERT AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY I MIGHT HAVE CRIED. - We had an Easter miracle while we were out last night where because of Gods perfect timing, and right before we were about to turn back we found this family from India who are super prepared for the gospel! She literally says to us, "I have 3 questions: where did I come from? Why am I here? And where am I going?" Umm boy do we ever have those answers! There was a crazy language barrier and I can't remember a word of what I said and I know the gift of tongues is ...

I'm alive! I haven't gotten me or my new comp killed yet so I think we're doing alright over here both as rookies! My new companions name is Sister Fairbanks! (Yes we are probably cousins. Grandma I'm going to need your help to figure out how! I've told her about Harold and Madge and we are trying to find the connection.) She is seriously so awesome! She has muscular dystrophy which means basically that lots of her body muscles don't work! Especially the ones in her face, so she can't smile... but you guys I have never meet a happier, friendlier, more positive person in my life! She doesn't even need to be able to smile for you to FEEL her happy! She's amazing. And the fact that she here serving a mission is a miracle in itself. She's incredible and able to touch people in a way that nobody else could and I love her with my whole heart. She's the sweetest. She has already taught me to just be so grateful for every day that Heavenly Father giv...

Trainer in Training

Hey all!! General conference was EPIC! I could go on and on about my favorite things but here is my favorite quote. "The Lord has never required expert, perfect, flawless missionary work. He does require the heart and a willing mind." That's literally all that is needed to be a missionary. And I challenge you all to take part in this greatest work that is happening on the earth today! Pick one friend or family member to reach out to this week and share the gospel with or invite to church or into your home! YOU WILL BE BLESSED AND HAPPIER AND SO WILL THEY. And you will be assisting your Heavenly Father in gathering his children! Sister Ashby went home yesterday which was so sad. I freaking love that girl. She is one heck of a missionary and I am so thankful for all she did for me my first transfer and for the course she set me on for the rest of my mission! Transfers are tomorrow and I just found out that I will be Training a new missionary! I am very humbled and e...

How Firm a Foundation

Image
This week was a new record for the hottest day I've ever been alive in. And it's only the beginning.... I am in for some HEAT coming up real quick. Some highlights of the week were: - building a shed for our friend Scotty. He had his terrible foundation that he built for it and we had to basically tell him that his foundation was awful and wouldn't hold anything and tear it down before we could start building again upon a SURE foundation. It took 5 hours in the blazing sun to build a foundation sturdy enough and according to the instructions. But it was so much fun! And not only did he need a solid foundation for his shed, he has no foundation for what he believes, and service softens people's hearts so we are hoping to teach him more about how to build upon the rock of our Redeemer. That is so important in this world that we live in today. - We had a recent concert temple trip where all the missionaries in our mission bring those that are newly baptized to the temple ...
