Ava's Mission

Hey everyone! I would like you all to meet my new companion Sister Rossi! She is Polynesian and from California but originally the Marshall islands! She is so cute and funny and fun and I love her so much. She is an answer to prayers and already such a huge blessing in my life. I think president thought it would be funny to put the tallest and shortest sisters in the whole mission together. We look hilarious together. She decided that she is the thumb and I am the pointer finger. People are also calling us David and Goliath... not sure how I feel about that one. This week was SO GOOD. Some of the highlights: Flagstaff had a county fair that we got to go help serve at! It was so cute. And we got to run the Segway maze, so we spent all morning trying to keep kids alive and from crashing into each other on segways! It was crazy and so fun. Sorry for no email last week... last pday was kinda the worst day ever. We came home after a very long and busy pday (every missionary knows em) only to get a text saying that our recent convert Quintin got stabbed. It's a ghetto neighbourhood (half the people we are teaching live there so we are there all the time) and he got jumped by some guys right outside of his house. He is okay and it's been quite the recovery, but he has only let it strengthen his faith and desire to repent and live his best each day in order to be ready for when his time really comes. He is such an inspiration. Fernando got baptized! And so did cute little Jordan. Fernando and his family are the biggest reason I am here right now I know it. They have come so far and I cant wait for the day when this family is sealed together forever. We sang families can be together forever at the end and we all bawled our eyes out. Happy pday everyone! This weeks highlight reel: We started teaching someone named Troy who is a super cool African American man. Well he was super cool... we taught him a first lesson and then when we stood up to leave he was like "wowwwww you're tall" and I nodded like always and he asked if we could measure heights. So of course I line up beside him like I do with everyone who thinks they are taller than me and ALL OF A SUDDEN his unshaven cheek is right against mine and he turns his head and HE ALMOST KISSED ME IT WAS THE SCARIEST THING OF MY LIFE. Sister Doru just stood there laughing at me being of no assistance (she later told me that the spirit told her I would be fine) so I quickly said we had to go and got myself outta there! I kept saying that if he had done it I would've finally had a reason to punched someone... but then I thought "is that what Jesus would do?" I don't know what He would've done in that situation. This is going to be a quick one because we are hiking in Sedona today and I'm stoked about it. This week we had zone conference which is always my favorite. President Collins talked a lot about the natural man and the doctrine of the soul. How every good choice we make helps us overcome the natural man and prepares us for the blessings that God has in store of us. He talked a lot about how our missions are preparing us for life and his whole discussion turned into a discussion about marriage and choosing an eternal companion and all of us missionaries were just looking around at each other awkwardly and it was so funny. He said "the better you prepare yourself and give your all to the lord now, the better spouse God will bless you with." I gotta get working then, thanks President. He is hilarious.
