ER trip, Malench, and a suprise TRIO
What a week. God never ceases to give me opportunities to keep me on my toes. Mid week President Collins called and told me we would be picking up another new missionary who is in training! Her name is sister Zollinger and she was originally assigned to the Montreal Canada mission, but covid. It is so fun to have her and sister Emery new at the same time with me so close to the end! This original dynamic and situation has made for some pretty increddible miracles and experiences come from God to teach and bless us.
Basically we are the 3 most accident prone people I've ever met. It's a miracle we have no broken bones yet. We went on a quick little hill climb to get sister Zollinger a picture by a cactus for her new facebook profile and something poked her foot! (It could be been anything from a stick, to a cactus spike, to a scorpion...) we weren't too worried about it, until 3 days later when her foot was swollen and red and hard as a rock! We called our mission nurse who sent us straight to the ER... turns out it is cellulitis, which in my understanding is a mild tissue infection. She got meds and tricks on how to draw whatever is in her foot out, and we are praying it works, otherwise she will have to go in and get her foot cut open next week! Fingers crossed!!!!
Now for Malench, the other part of this emails subject title. Because sis. Zollinger was originally called to Montreal, she leaned french in the Mtc and sister Emery is learning Malay. Soooooo everyday we do an hour long English fast during an hour of the day where we really need to communicate with eachother and it is so cool because WE ALL UNDERSTAND EACHOTHER. We begin with a prayer asking God to let us all receive the gift of the interpretation of tongues and for the first time in my life I get to experience the gift of tongues in action. I can't understand a word, but through intense focus and striving by the spirit I am able to understand everything they are trying to get across. The only downside is that my mind has gotten so much French and Malay mixed up that it has created it's own language. I can't separate the two no matter how hard I try. It's a miracle in itself that my brain can hold as much as it does.
It has been so increddible to watch the work grow in this area. Our members have gone from praying for us to find people to teach to praying that THEY will be lead to find people for us to teach. And because there is real intent behind their prayers, THEY ARE ALL BEING LEAD because that is how God works. He has people prepared in every area all over the world, but even the most hard working spirit lead missionaries can't find them all because they can't go to your work, or knock on the doors of your neighbors anymore. They don't know about the seeds that your example has planed in the hearts of family members and friends. Not only is it our responsibility as members to find people for the missionaries to teach, but it is our PRIVILEDGE to ask God to be an instrument in His hands and then have the courage to invite those we know and love to experience the joy and hope and peace that only this gospel can bring to a world of destruction and chaos. This is how we met Lianna Templeton this week. Her and her coworker, sister Paget were talking at work about all the crazy in the world right now, and because sister Paget had been praying for weeks for missionary opportunities, the spirit spoke to her that Lianna was put in her path so that she could bear her testimony. She was able to tell her about the peace and hope that she feels even when everything around is attacking both peace and hope and she told Liana about how we as missionaries share little messages of hope to bring light to a darkened world. Lianna eyes welled up with tears as sister Paget invited her to receive a video call message from us missionaries. Lianna accepted saying it was an answer to prayers and that she was so grateful that sister Paget was thoughtful enough to offer that. Our message of hope turned into a powerful lesson about how this is Jesus Christ's Church once again brought back to the Earth and Lianna realized for the first time that there was something that we had that she didn't even know she was missing. I am so excited to continue teaching her and I'm so grateful that God loves all of us enough to use any one of us with a willing and courageous heart as an instrument in His hands anytime and anywhere. I encourage you all to pray that you will be lead and the be always ready to open your mouth when the spirit prompts. I am committed to continue doing that for the rest of my life because I love this work so much.
