Happiness is....
I've realized that I always tell you how much happiness comes from missionary work... but I don't think I've ever broke it down for you all as to what that happiness is.
Happiness is when it snows in Arizona. Happiness is when Jay Randall calls you on Wednesday saying he wants to be baptised on Saturday. Happiness is when his kids are all kneeling down in front of the font watching him and his good example. Happiness is seeing the joy in his wife after she has waited patiently and lovingly for so long to have her husband hold the Priesthood and the promise of an Eternal family one day. Happiness is eating a big fat chocolate brownie after going without sugar for a month. It is sitting in Texas roadhouse with your Bishop and his Wife hearing your favorite songs from home playing but not wanting to be anywhere else but here or do anything else but this. Happiness is coming home after a long hard day and laying on your bed that is too small for you and telling yourself that you are only going to close your eyes for 5 minutes, only to wake up the next morning at 6:30 to your alarm, drop to your knees, begin to pray, and realize that you slept in your shoes, your dress, and your nametag from the day before. Happiness is when coach texts and ask how fast you can get to the high school because they are taking a team picture and they want the missionaries in it. It is finally figuring out what God wants you to do after your mission. Happiness is when the spirit tells you, "well done thou good and faithful servant... now go work harder, there are more people out there who need me through you." It is hearing someone pray for the very first time. Happiness is laughing till you cry over dinner with what has become your second family out here. It's having a good old chat with your Mission President and his wife. It is receiving some Christlike correction from a trusted companion. Happiness is being part of the Arizona Phoenix Mission Family. Happiness is wearing pants. It's sitting in a strangers living room feeling tears well up in your eyes as you testify of how you know this gospel is true to someone God has allowed you to see so much potential in. Happiness is having your Savior's name over your heart every day in Flagstaff and on the dirt roads out in Doney Park. Happiness is driving down Hutton Ranch off Townsend Winona every morning in your trusty Tacoma with pine trees all around and a beautiful view of mount Eldon, Humphreys, and the fresh snow covered peaks. Happiness is feeling like you are home even when you are away because you are right where God wants you to be.
Happiness is found in Jesus Christ and doing HIS WORK. And it can be found whoever you are and wherever you are today.
"The joy we feel in our lives has little to do with our circumstance, and everything to do with our Focus." - Russel M. Nelson
Go out there and do something this week to find out more about what happiness is to you. I'd love to hear about what your happiness is.
